Bulk Quartz Cuvette Orders — OEM & Lab Supply Programs
Bulk Quartz Cuvette Orders — OEM & Lab Supply Programs
Factory-direct quartz cuvettes from MachinedQuartz: 2-piece minimum order, 30%+ volume discount at scale, custom geometry without tooling fees, full QC documentation, and global Express delivery to spectroscopy OEMs, instrument resellers, university labs, pharma QC, and IVD device makers.
Most quartz-cuvette OEM programs are built for buyers who already commit to a year of stock. Hellma’s standard OEM tier asks for 100-piece minimums; Starna typically opens with 50-piece batches; the rest of the European optics industry sits somewhere in that range. That floor exists because legacy suppliers run capital-intensive automated lines that need long batch volumes to justify a setup.
MachinedQuartz operates differently. Our production is precision machining of fused-quartz blanks plus optical polishing — both done in cells that can switch geometry every shift. The result is a price ladder that starts at two pieces and reaches 30%+ volume discount on production runs of 1,000+ units, with no tooling fees on geometry changes that fit our standard envelope. That makes us a useful direct-source for spectrophotometer OEMs, lab-supply distributors, university procurement, pharma QC, and IVD diagnostic device makers who need batch traceability without committing to a year of inventory.
1. Why bulk-buy quartz cuvettes from MachinedQuartz
Four positioning facts drive the bulk-buyer decision. Each is verifiable from a sample order before you ever sign a contract.
2-piece MOQ
Open an OEM/wholesale account with a 2-cuvette evaluation order. Most competitors require 50–100 pieces just to start.
Factory-direct pricing
You buy from the manufacturer, not a distributor markup chain. 30% volume discount at 1,000+ pieces, scaling further on annual contracts.
Custom without tooling fees
Geometry changes within our standard envelope (path 1–100 mm, custom outer dims, custom wells) ship with the same lead time as stock.
QC docs on request
Most orders ship without paperwork. CoA, dimensional report, JGS-grade certificate, batch record & photo log are available on request — no surcharge for OEM-tier customers.
2. Who buys cuvettes in bulk from us
The same pricing and lead-time programs work for very different buyer profiles. Use these as templates for your own quote conversation.
Spectrophotometer OEM
Annual volume 5,000–50,000 units. Cuvettes ship with the instrument or as branded accessories. Needs: dimensional consistency lot-to-lot, JGS grade lock, custom geometry to match optical path, IP-protected drawings (NDA required), 12-week call-off shipments against a master order.
Lab supply distributor
Resellers like Cole-Parmer-tier or regional VWR partners stock standard 10 mm path-length cuvettes plus a curated micro/IR/fluorescence range. Needs: stock-and-replenish on 60+ SKUs, private-label or co-branded packaging, fast restock lead times, pricing that supports a 35–45% reseller margin.
University procurement
Teaching-lab or core-facility orders of 100–500 standard cuvettes. Needs: PO terms (NET 30 with university PO), bulk discount, accidental-breakage replacement program, basic CoA. Typically order once or twice per academic year.
Pharma QC & IVD makers
Recurring quarterly orders against a validated lot. Needs: GMP-aligned documentation (CoA + dimensional report + signed batch record), JGS-grade lock against the validation lot, change-notification before any process change, traceable lot numbers tied to ISO 9001 manufacturing records.
3. Pricing tiers & volume discounts
The volume discount curve in Figure 2 is implemented as seven discrete tiers. Discounts apply to the entire order, not just incremental pieces past a break point.
| Volume | Discount | Lead time | Freight terms |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2–4 pcs | List price | 3–7 days from stock | FedEx Express, DAP — customer pays import |
| 5–9 pcs | 5% off | 3–7 days | FedEx Express, DAP |
| 10–49 pcs | 10% off | 7–14 days | FedEx Express, DAP; freight included on orders ≥ $1,500 |
| 50–99 pcs | 15% off | 12–18 days | FedEx Express or sea freight, DAP |
| 100–499 pcs | 20% off | 18–25 days | DAP default; DDP available on request |
| 500–999 pcs | 25% off | 25–35 days | DDP, delivered customs-cleared |

4. OEM custom programs
OEM partners can run any of four customization programs, individually or stacked, without tooling fees on the first three. For a deeper walk-through of what custom geometry is possible, see custom quartz cuvettes.
Co-branded labeling
We laser-mark a co-brand identifier on each cuvette body or on the packaging label. Common patterns: instrument SKU + MQ part number, distributor SKU + JGS grade, or a custom batch identifier. Lead-time impact: zero. Cost impact: $0.05–0.20 per piece depending on mark complexity.
Private label
Cuvettes ship blank or with the partner’s logo only. Packaging carries partner branding (we supply blanks; partner supplies artwork). Documentation can be issued in partner letterhead with our QC signature on a controlled-access basis. Common with regional distributors and instrument OEMs that resell as “compatible accessories.”
Custom geometry without tooling fees
Geometry changes within our standard machining envelope ship with the same lead time as catalog stock and incur no tooling fee:
- Path lengths from 1 mm to 100 mm
- Outer dimensions 12.5×12.5 mm to 50×50 mm
- Custom well sizes for XRD/specimen holders
- 2-way, 4-way, or non-standard polish patterns
- Etched fill lines or volume calibration marks
- Specific JGS-grade lock (JGS1 / JGS2 / JGS3) per partner spec
Net-new geometry that requires fixturing or new machining programs (typically very small wells, very long path lengths, or curved-bottom designs) is quoted as a one-time engineering charge plus a per-piece price; we provide the 2D drawing for sign-off before any machining starts.
Custom packaging
Three packaging tiers:
- Individual foam-cushion box — standard for catalog orders and most OEM shipments.
- Tray packaging (5 or 10 pieces / tray) — standard for distributors and OEM call-offs.
- Bulk-tray + thermoform — available for production runs ≥ 500 pieces; can be co-designed with the partner’s automated assembly line.
Bulk packaging
Foam-cushion individual boxes, 5/10-piece trays, or thermoform bulk pallets — sized for the partner’s intake process.
Production cells
Precision machining + optical polishing in cells that can switch geometry every shift — the basis of our 2-piece MOQ.
QC inspection station
Calibrated digital micrometers, interferometric flatness check, transmission spectrophotometer — every lot passes through.
Lot label sample
Lot number, JGS grade, dimensional inspection date, batch size, MQ part number — what each box ships with.
5. Quality documentation available on request
Most bulk shipments leave our factory with a packing list and commercial invoice only — the format that distributors, university procurement, and most OEMs expect. Formal QC documentation is prepared on request and is the right call when you have a specific procurement, validation, or audit requirement that needs a paper trail.
What we can issue on request
- Certificate of Analysis (CoA) — material grade, chemical composition, raw quartz supplier of origin, and signed-off conformance to the order spec.
- Dimensional inspection report — outer dimensions, path length, window flatness, well dimensions where applicable. Per-piece reporting for orders ≤ 50 pieces; AQL-1.0 sampling for larger orders.
- JGS-grade certificate — transmission curve from the raw-quartz supplier showing JGS1, JGS2, or JGS3 conformance. Important for pharma validation lots and IVD device makers who need supplier-of-origin traceability.
- Batch production record — production date, machining cell ID, operator, lot number, and QC sign-off. The format that pharma QC validates against and that IVD makers need for FDA 510(k) submissions.
- QC photo log — hi-resolution photos of every cuvette face at outgoing QC. Lets a partner’s incoming inspection short-cut to verification rather than full re-inspection.
Documentation pricing
- OEM-tier customers (≥ $25,000/yr or 1,000+ pcs): all five documents at no charge, included in the contract.
- Production runs (50+ pcs): CoA + dimensional report at no charge on request; batch record + photo log $50–150 per lot depending on detail level.
- Smaller orders: documents available with a flat $50 prep fee per document type, waived if requested at the time of PO.
6. Lead times by order size
Lead time scales with both volume and customization. The five order size classes in Figure 4 cover most of what we ship.
Stock items (3–7 working days)
The 60+ catalog SKUs we keep in stock include 10 mm path standard cuvettes (browse the cuvette catalog), micro cuvettes from 0.5 mm to 5 mm (micro cuvette guide), fluorescence 4-clear-side cuvettes, cylindrical/reflectance cuvettes, demountable cells, screw-top cuvettes, and IR-grade NIR cuvettes. Orders of 2–50 pieces against catalog SKUs ship within 3–7 working days from PO confirmation, including documentation prep.
Small batch custom (12–18 working days)
5–50 pieces of custom geometry that fits our standard machining envelope. Includes drawing review, machining-program setup (one-time per geometry, no charge for repeat orders), production, QC, and shipping prep.
Production runs (18–25 working days)
50–499 pieces of stock or custom geometry. Drawing review and program setup happen in parallel with raw-quartz blank prep. Production runs in dedicated machining cells; QC samples per AQL-1.0 with full inspection on the first article and last article of every batch.
Large runs (25–35 working days)
500–999 pieces. Same workflow as production runs but with longer raw-material prep and more parallel machining cells. DDP terms standard at this size.
OEM scale (35–50 working days)
1,000+ pieces. Includes optional first-article approval cycle (we ship 5–10 pieces from the production run for partner sign-off before completing the rest). Large OEM contracts run as scheduled call-off shipments against a master PO.
7. Logistics & global delivery
We ship from our factory in Donghai, China — one of the world’s largest fused-quartz manufacturing clusters. Default freight is FedEx International Priority on DAP terms; DHL Express, UPS, and sea freight (≥ 500 pcs) are available on request.
FedEx Express transit times (door to door)
- Japan / Korea: 2–3 working days
- USA (East & West Coast): 4–6 working days
- European Union: 5–7 working days
- India: 4–6 working days
- Australia / NZ: 5–7 working days
- South America / Africa: 7–10 working days (regional variability)
Customs and freight terms
- DAP (default for most orders): we ship FedEx Express to the partner’s address; partner clears customs and pays import duty on arrival. Standard for orders 2–499 pieces.
- DDP (500+ pcs, on request): we ship and clear customs in partner’s country; landed cost included in PO. Available for US, EU, Japan, Korea, Singapore, Australia.
- EXW (alternative): partner’s nominated freight forwarder picks up at factory. Useful for partners running consolidated freight programs.
- FCA / FOB Shanghai: partner books vessel; we deliver to terminal. For sea-freight orders 500 pieces and above.
Insurance and damage policy
Air shipments include carrier-default declared value coverage. Higher-value orders (≥ $5,000) ship with a separate cargo insurance policy issued by Ping An Insurance covering glass-breakage, transit damage, and loss in transit. We cover replacement at no charge for any documented breakage in transit; a per-piece replacement-stock allocation is built into the quote so replacements ship the same day a claim is documented.
8. How to qualify for OEM rates
OEM-tier pricing (annual contract pricing, 30%+ discount, NET 30 terms, dedicated account manager) is unlocked by three things in combination:
1. Annual volume commitment
Minimum $25,000 USD annual spend or 1,000 pieces per year, whichever comes first. Smaller commitments still qualify for the standard volume tiers in Section 3 but skip the OEM-specific terms.
2. Sample-batch first-article approval
For new geometries, we ship 5–10 pieces from the production run for partner sign-off before completing the remainder. The first-article cycle adds 7–10 working days to the first batch lead time and is included in the contract pricing — no separate sample fee.
3. Master Service Agreement (MSA)
An MSA covers payment terms, QC documentation requirements, change-notification, IP boundaries, exclusivity (if any), confidentiality, and dispute resolution. Standard MSA template runs ~6 pages; partner legal review typically takes 5–15 working days. We accept partner-template MSAs and have closed deals on both sides.
9. MachinedQuartz vs Hellma vs Starna OEM programs
Hellma (Germany) and Starna (UK) are the two dominant European OEM cuvette suppliers. Both produce excellent products and both make sense for partners with the volume to clear their MOQ thresholds. The honest comparison below is what we can verify from public information, our own customer migrations, and the deeper comparative analysis of quartz cuvette models.
| MachinedQuartz | Hellma (DE) | Starna (UK) | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Minimum order | 2 pieces | ~ 100 pieces | ~ 50 pieces |
| Stock-item lead time | 3–7 days | 2–4 weeks | 2–3 weeks |
| Custom geometry lead | 12–25 days | 8–12 weeks | 6–10 weeks |
| Tooling fees on custom | None within envelope | Often charged | Often charged |
| Per-piece price (10 mm path, std) | Factory direct | 2–3× MQ | 1.8–2.5× MQ |
| QC documentation | CoA + dim + JGS, free | CoA + dim, premium tier | CoA + dim, included |
| Pharma/IVD batch records | On request, no charge | Available, paid | Available, paid |
| Geographic strength | Asia-Pacific, North America growing | EU + global flagship | UK + Commonwealth + US |
| Brand recognition | Newer entrant | 100+ year heritage | 50+ year heritage |
| Best for | OEMs, distributors, university labs, IVD makers, fast-iterating startups | Pharmaceutical reference labs, regulated EU markets, certified flagship contracts | UK-anchored OEMs, ISO/IEC reference work, Commonwealth markets |
The case for switching to MQ is strongest when MOQ, lead time, and unit cost are the binding constraints — small OEMs doing first-article qualification, distributors building a private-label range, fast-iterating startups, university teaching labs, and IVD makers who need traceable lots without a 100-piece floor. The case for staying with Hellma or Starna is strongest where their EU regulatory footprint, brand heritage in pharma reference labs, or existing certified flagship contracts is what the partner needs.

11. Related guides & tools
The bulk and OEM program above is the commercial layer. For technical depth on cuvette types, fabrication options, and selection rules, the linked guides below cover the engineering side of the same product line.
12. Frequently asked questions
Two pieces. Most competitor OEM programs require 50 to 100 pieces minimum to start a wholesale or OEM account, but MachinedQuartz opens an OEM account with a 2-piece evaluation order against any catalog SKU or any custom geometry within our standard envelope. The 2-piece floor exists because our production runs in flexible machining cells rather than dedicated automated lines, so changing geometry between shifts is a normal operation rather than a tooling event.
We use seven discrete tiers. Discounts apply to the entire order, not just incremental pieces past a break point. Tiers run from list price at 2-4 pieces, 5% off at 5-9, 10% off at 10-49, 15% off at 50-99, 20% off at 100-499, 25% off at 500-999, and 30% or more at 1,000-plus pieces. Annual contract pricing for OEMs above 5,000 units per year is negotiated separately and typically lands 35-40% below list with NET 30 payment terms.
First-time small orders up to $2,000 are paid via PayPal or credit card (Visa, Mastercard, AmEx). Repeat customers move to 50% deposit / 50% before shipment via wire transfer. OEM contracts at $25,000 per year or above qualify for NET 30 with a signed MSA and credit verification. US-based pharma and university buyers with a valid PO can pay by ACH on validated POs (we accept ACH, wire transfer, and credit card; we do not accept paper checks).
Yes. Cuvettes ship blank or with the partner’s logo only; packaging carries partner branding (we supply blanks; partner supplies artwork). Documentation can be issued in partner letterhead with our QC signature on a controlled-access basis. Private-label is most common with regional distributors and instrument OEMs who resell as ‘compatible accessories.’ There is no per-piece surcharge for private label on production runs of 100 or more pieces.
No, for any geometry within our standard machining envelope. That includes path lengths from 1 mm to 100 mm, outer dimensions from 12.5×12.5 mm to 50×50 mm, custom well sizes, 2-way or 4-way polish patterns, etched fill or volume-calibration marks, and JGS-grade lock to a specific batch. Net-new geometry that requires fixturing or new machining programs (very small wells, very long path lengths, curved-bottom designs) is quoted as a one-time engineering charge plus per-piece price; we send the 2D drawing for sign-off before any machining starts.
Documentation is available on request, not by default. Most bulk shipments leave the factory with a packing list and commercial invoice only. Five documents can be added on request: Certificate of Analysis, dimensional inspection report (per-piece for orders up to 50, AQL-1.0 sampling for larger orders), JGS-grade certificate, batch production record, and a hi-resolution QC photo log. OEM-tier customers ($25,000 per year or above) get all five documents at no charge as part of the contract. Production runs (50 or more pieces) get CoA and dimensional report free on request, with a $50 to $150 fee per lot for batch records and photo logs. Smaller orders pay a flat $50 prep fee per document type, waived if requested at the time of PO.
Yes. We accept partner-template NDAs and have closed mutual NDAs in 24-48 hours during normal business cycles. Standard MQ NDAs are mutual, cover 5 years, and protect partner geometry, target volumes, end-use application, and pricing. We do not require an NDA before initial quote conversations; we sign before any partner-specific drawings or proprietary geometry data are shared.
Express transit times door-to-door from our Donghai, China factory: Japan and Korea 2-3 working days, USA East and West Coast 4-6 days, European Union 5-7 days, India 4-6 days, Australia and New Zealand 5-7 days, South America and Africa 7-10 days. Default freight is FedEx International Priority on DAP terms; DHL Express, UPS, and sea freight (for orders 500 pieces and above) are available on request. Sea freight saves 60-70% on freight cost against a 25-35 day transit time.
Air shipments include carrier-default declared value coverage, and orders 5,000 USD and above ship with separate cargo insurance issued by Ping An Insurance covering glass-breakage, transit damage, and loss in transit. We replace any documented breakage at no charge. Each bulk PO includes a per-piece replacement-stock allocation, so replacement units typically ship the same day a claim is documented rather than waiting for a new production run.
Yes. We host partner audits with 2-3 weeks advance notice and have hosted audits from US-based pharma QC teams, EU instrument OEMs, and Japanese distributors. Standard audit covers material handling, machining cell flow, polishing, dimensional inspection, transmission verification, and packaging. We also accept third-party audits from SGS, TUV, and Bureau Veritas if your procurement compliance requires an arms-length audit. Travel expenses are typically the partner’s responsibility but lodging and ground transport in our region can be arranged through us.
13. Disclaimer & notes
Pricing and discount tiers shown above are indicative figures based on standard catalog geometry, JGS2 quartz, and FedEx DAP delivery. Final per-piece pricing varies with the specific geometry, material grade, surface finish, packaging, freight terms, and current raw-quartz market conditions. Tier discounts apply at the time of quote. Pricing in any signed quote or MSA supersedes the figures on this page.
Lead times are typical based on production cell load and supply-chain conditions at the time of writing. Stock-item lead times of 3–7 days assume catalog SKUs and validated payment. Custom geometry, peak-season demand, and force-majeure events (Chinese New Year, raw-quartz shortages, freight congestion) may extend lead times. Binding lead-time SLAs are issued only as part of a signed contract or MSA.
Minimum order quantity (MOQ) of 2 pieces applies to catalog geometry and most custom geometry within our standard machining envelope. Net-new geometry that requires fixturing, very small wells, very long path lengths, or curved-bottom designs may carry a higher MOQ on the first batch to recover engineering setup time. We confirm MOQ at quote.
Third-party brand mentions — Hellma, Starna, FireflySci, Cole-Parmer, VWR, Rigaku, Malvern Panalytical, Bruker AXS, Bank of China, HSBC, Ping An Insurance, DHL, FedEx, UPS, and SGS, TÜV, Bureau Veritas — are referenced only for comparison and context.
