0.25 mm Quartz Groove Cell for Thin Sample Layers
CUSTOM DESIGN GUIDE · MQQCU023
MQQCU023 places a thin sample layer in a continuous groove inside a long, slender quartz body. The nominal path is 0.25 mm and the capacity is 65 µL. It is a different approach from filling an upright cuvette: the groove, its open ends and the observation position work together.

A thin layer without diluting the sample
Short-path absorption cells are relevant when a method needs less sample distance through the beam. Where Beer–Lambert behaviour applies, a shorter path lowers absorbance at the same concentration. That gives a reason to consider a shallow sample layer before changing the sample formulation. [1]
In MQQCU023, the groove supplies that shallow region within a 52 × 7 × 2.25 mm outside body. The 2.25 mm dimension is the outside thickness; the liquid path is 0.25 mm. The cell therefore cannot be described adequately by its thickness alone.

Loading follows the groove
The reference has openings at both ends. They give access to the same continuous groove, rather than dividing the cell into separate chambers. A proposed loading arrangement needs to bring liquid into the region crossed by the beam and leave a route for removal.
This is especially important when the cell lies in a compact optical or observation fixture. The body may fit a narrow space, but an end hidden behind a bracket is no longer useful for loading or clearing the groove. An end opening is also different from a ready-made hose fitting.
Position the sample region before choosing the clip
The observation point belongs on the groove drawing, referenced to an edge used by the holder. That relationship makes placement repeatable when the cell is taken out and returned to the setup. It is more useful than centring the outside body by eye.
The slim format is worth considering when the method uses a shallow layer and can accommodate end access. A system built around a capped upright cell or threaded tubing connections would need a different handling or connection arrangement.
A custom example: leave one loading end exposed
ILLUSTRATIVE DESIGN EXAMPLE
Suppose the groove crosses the required observation point, but the holder covers one end. A proposed version can retain the 0.25 mm path and change the exposed end length or support position. The useful drawing shows where liquid enters, where observation occurs and which part of the body is held.
