Description

The C205CE is a premium quartz fluorescence cuvette with 20 mm path length and four-way light optical configuration — all four vertical faces are polished to optical grade, providing the standard 90° fluorescence geometry plus additional optical access. With a standard 7 ml internal volume (10 × 20 × 43 mm chamber), the cell is compatible with most commercial fluorimeters and UV-Vis spectrophotometers. Fabricated using Molded 83 (>83% transmittance) — the cuvette body is integrally fused as a single piece with no adhesive joints. Includes a PTFE cap for dust protection and evaporation control.

Why Four-Way Light?

The four-way configuration polishes all four vertical faces plus the bottom to optical grade, providing maximum geometric flexibility for excitation and emission collection. This enables front-face fluorescence on opaque or highly concentrated samples, polarization anisotropy measurements requiring precise alignment, and bottom-read configurations used in plate-reader-adapted instruments. If your experiment only requires standard 90° fluorescence geometry, a four-way cuvette is sufficient; choose four-way when you need bottom optical access or plan to rotate the cuvette for multi-angle studies.

PTFE Cap

The PTFE cap provides dust protection and reduces solvent evaporation during measurements. PTFE is chemically inert and contributes no background fluorescence, ensuring clean emission spectra. The cap fits securely over the cuvette opening and can be quickly removed for sample addition.

Why Molded 83 Construction?

Molded 83 is the premium fabrication method: the cuvette is integrally fused as a single piece with no adhesive or joints. This eliminates solvent attack points and enables operation up to 1200 °C — far exceeding sintered (600 °C) or glue-assembled (200 °C) alternatives. Dimensional tolerance is ±0.02 mm. The monolithic construction withstands all common laboratory solvents, concentrated acids, and bases; avoid HF (hydrofluoric acid). Critically for fluorescence work, the absence of adhesive removes a common source of background fluorescence that can contaminate emission spectra. With transmittance >83%, Molded 83 is the gold standard for demanding fluorescence research.

Usage Tips: Handle by non-optical surfaces only — fingerprints on polished faces cause scattering artifacts that raise fluorescence background. Rinse immediately after use. Molded 83 construction withstands all common laboratory solvents, concentrated acids, and bases. Avoid HF (hydrofluoric acid). For fluorescence work, ensure the excitation beam enters through a polished window and the detector views at 90° through an adjacent polished face. Compatible with Shimadzu, Agilent, PerkinElmer, Thermo Fisher, JASCO, Hitachi, Horiba, Edinburgh Instruments, and most commercial fluorimeters.
