Round Quartz Capillary with a Square Bore: Supporting and Aligning the Channel
CUSTOM DESIGN GUIDE · MQC478
MQC478 combines a round outside with a square inner channel. The listed 1.27 mm outside diameter provides a circular mounting interface; the 0.36 × 0.36 mm bore introduces its own faces and orientation. The two shapes can serve different parts of a proposed sample-handling or observation assembly.

The outside can stay round while the sample region changes shape
An ordinary round-bore tube presents a circular passage at its end. A square-bore section replaces that opening with four faces and corners while retaining a circular exterior. This is useful to discuss when the inner channel shape matters but the surrounding support is circular.
The inner shape can be part of a proposed viewing or mating arrangement. For example, a particular square face may need to face an observation direction or align with the wall of a receiving channel. That requirement concerns the inside section, not the outside diameter.
MQC478 configuration
A circular seat does not key the square bore
The tube can rotate in a circular support unless another locating feature constrains it. The outside may remain centred while the square faces turn away from their intended direction. A fixture drawing therefore benefits from an end-view reference for the bore.
The same reference can be used at both ends. This makes the relationship between support, inner face and receiving component explicit. Corner shape and bore position belong on the custom section when those details affect the interface.
Use the length where the method needs access
The listed length is 25 mm. Some of that may be held by the fixture, while an end or side region remains exposed. Identifying the working region early prevents a support from occupying the very area the channel was chosen to provide.
At a connection, the receiving opening and contact area also have shapes. Showing them beside the square bore explains the transition more clearly than selecting a fitting from the circular outside alone.

ILLUSTRATIVE DESIGN EXAMPLE
Suppose a fixture must retain its circular seat, but a mating channel requires a square face at a defined angle. A proposed version can keep the outside interface and specify the square bore orientation from the assembly reference. The request separates the retained mechanical fit from the new inner-channel relationship.
