D-Shaped Quartz Capillary: A Flat Reference Around a Round Bore
CUSTOM DESIGN GUIDE · MQC505
MQC505 is listed with a D-shaped outside and a round bore. The outer flat gives a fixture something different from a circular tube to locate against, while the bore supplies the internal passage. It is a useful section to discuss when channel orientation and mounting need a shared reference.

Give the flat a job in the assembly
A round outside can turn in a circular seat unless the fixture provides another locating method. A D-shaped section adds a flat that may serve as an orientation face or provide clearance beside another component. These are distinct reasons to choose the profile.
The listed outside envelope is 2.5 × 2.3 mm, with a 1.62 mm bore and 25 mm length. Those values identify the reference option. The useful custom section relates the bore and the full outside outline to the particular face used by the fixture.
MQC505 configuration
A located outside still needs a located passage
Imagine a fixture gripping the flat correctly while a receiving component waits at the end. The connection succeeds geometrically only when the bore meets that component's opening. The holder contact and the bore position therefore need to be described from the same reference.
This is where an end section adds more than a product photograph. It carries the outside contact, bore centre and mating opening in one view. A side view then supplies the supported length and the end access.
Decide whether the ends or the side are the working region
A capillary may be selected for an end connection, an exposed length, or both in a proposed setup. A holder surrounding the whole tube can make the outside secure while covering the region needed by the method. Identifying that region prevents an apparently neat fixture from defeating the purpose of the part.
The D-profile is most useful when its flat has a defined role. Choosing it simply because it looks different adds a shaped support interface without necessarily solving the channel-alignment task.
A custom example: reference the bore from the D-flat
ILLUSTRATIVE DESIGN EXAMPLE
Suppose an adjacent component places its opening at a fixed distance from the holder's flat seat. The proposed capillary section can use that seat as its datum and locate the bore accordingly. The request concerns the relationship between outside and inside, rather than only a new bore diameter.
