Square Quartz Gas Cell: Planning Several Optical Access Directions
Custom Design Guides · C204WS
A square chamber can provide access from several side directions while a single stem remains above it. That is the arrangement shown for C204WS, listed as a nominal 20 mm quartz gas-cell configuration with four-side optical access.
The exterior identifies a useful window-and-stem layout to discuss. It does not establish that the cell is supplied filled, contains any particular gas or has a verified pressure or leakage rating.

In this guide: Configuration · Design comparison · Identify each optical direction · Treat the stem as a separate interface · From an angled tube to a square optical chamber · Agree the optical and containment requirements independently · Enquiry
The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
A top stem adds a preparation or connection feature above a square gas-cell body. The side optical regions still need their own acceptance, while the stem's purpose and closure state must be defined separately.
Identify each optical direction
Label the side faces and show which directions the proposed experiment needs. Several accessible faces do not automatically define their usable apertures, surface tolerances or the instrument geometry around them.
The support also needs a place to contact the chamber. Mark the required clear regions and the base or other surfaces available for location. A holder that covers a needed side window defeats the reason for choosing the multi-directional form.
Treat the stem as a separate interface
State the required role of the top stem: for example, access during preparation or a defined filling and closure process. Its presence alone does not specify a permanent connection, removable seal or completed fill operation.
Give MQ the intended contents and process requirements rather than inferring them from the term gas cell. No alkali-metal fill, gas purity or sealed-cell preparation is claimed for this reference.
From an angled tube to a square optical chamber
The angled-end cylindrical reference elsewhere in this series presents a different window and support arrangement. This square form is worth considering when the task needs several side directions, rather than merely a different tube diameter.
A hypothetical custom request might retain a chosen optical direction while changing the stem location to clear a cover. Identify the windows and dimensions to keep, the required stem endpoint and the support arrangement. The complete geometry needs review.
Agree the optical and containment requirements independently
Optical access and containment are different acceptance questions. Specify the window requirements and any necessary fill, closure or leakage evidence as separate items, with relevant conditions and records.
A nominal path and clear-looking quartz walls do not establish a usable spectral range or an operating rating. Those requirements should be agreed for the ordered design before quotation.

Is the listed cell already filled and permanently sealed?
That supply state is not established here. State the required contents, preparation, stem closure and supporting documentation, then confirm the offered configuration with MQ.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Send a face-labelled chamber sketch with the stem and support shown. MQ can review the optical access and containment requirements without treating one as proof of the other.
- Optical directions and required clear-window areas
- Nominal path and any optical acceptance requirement
- Stem role, endpoint and closure or filling requirement
- Contents, operating conditions and required containment evidence
- Support layout, quantity and documentation
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Window specifications, fill state, sealing method, leakage, pressure and instrument compatibility require confirmation.
