1 mL Quartz Screw-Top Tube: Allowing for a Long, Narrow Body
Custom Design Guides · MQQTT027
MQQTT027 is a nominal 1 mL quartz screw-top tube with a long, narrow body. The reference marks a 5 mm outside diameter, an M10 neck feature, a 170 mm length and a 175 mm height with the cap. A further 153 mm mark refers to a different portion of the tube and should not be substituted for either overall reference.
This is a useful configuration to discuss when the container must extend into a narrow position while the closure remains accessible. The small nominal capacity does not describe how far the tube reaches or how it should be supported.

The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
The narrow screw-neck tube retains a long sample-access route while adding a closure above it. Compared with a plain open tube, the closed envelope and the exposed neck become additional fit requirements.
Define the inserted section and the exposed section
For example, a support may accept the thin tube while the wider threaded end stays above it. Mark the insertion depth and the stop surface on a section of the actual support. Then identify the exposed length needed for opening and withdrawal.
The neck shoulder should not become an accidental support point. If it is intended to locate the tube, its contact and allowable handling need a specific review. A long narrow body also needs a handling route that avoids using the cap as an unqualified lifting feature.
Keep all length marks tied to their endpoints
A drawing can contain several valid lengths because they describe different parts of the assembly. The 153, 170 and 175 mm references here should remain separate until their endpoints are agreed. Choosing the smallest number for a fit check would hide the longer assembly.
For a custom request, use one datum and dimension the body, inserted portion and closed height from clear surfaces. Mark any uncertainty on the enquiry sketch instead of combining different length references into one value.
Small volume still needs an access plan
State how the sample is introduced and recovered. A tool may need to pass through the neck and reach along the narrow body, so give its outside diameter and usable length. The 1 mL label is not a demonstrated minimum working or recoverable volume.
Describe the intended fill position and whether the tube is used upright, supported horizontally or in another arrangement. That information belongs to the application review; the reference tube does not establish suitability for every orientation or instrument.
Retaining the M10 feature in a custom version
If an existing cap must be kept while the tube length changes, provide the actual cap or a mating drawing. M10 identifies a nominal thread feature, not every seat, engagement or liner detail. The complete closing arrangement still needs to match.
The project drawing should separate the neck interface from the thin-body envelope and state which dimensions are critical. Proposed fit, closure or handling checks are agreed for that design, not assumed from the thread designation.

Will any M10 cap fit this tube?
Do not assume so. The mating thread details, engagement, neck-end contact and any liner must be checked. Send the actual cap reference or a drawing when interchangeability is required.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Use the current tube reference to identify the required form, then add the support and sampling requirements. MQ can review a length or neck change without confusing the different dimensions.
- Inserted length and the datum or stop surface
- Support bore and clearance for the wider neck
- Maximum closed height and withdrawal route
- Sampling-tool diameter, reach and working fill
- Mating cap details, sample conditions and requested checks
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Exact endpoints of all length marks, internal access, detailed thread pairing, closure performance and operating conditions remain to be agreed.
