4 mm Micro Quartz Cuvette: Matching the Sample and Beam (MQQMC034)
Custom design guide · MQQMC034
A 4 × 4 mm sample region sits inside a 12.5 mm-square body. This microcell is selected around both the shorter optical path and the space available for the beam in the filled region.

Match the beam to the 4 mm sample region
MQQMC034 keeps a familiar 12.5 × 12.5 mm footprint while using a narrow 4 × 4 mm sample region. Its nominal 4 mm path and 560 µL capacity make it a configuration to consider when the method can use a shorter path and a smaller chamber.
The outside fit is only the first check. The beam must also pass through the intended filled region and the clear optical strips. Four transmission faces provide possible viewing directions, but a holder that accepts the body does not establish usable optical alignment.

How the structure differs from a conventional cell
The change is inside the footprint: more material surrounds a smaller square sample region. That changes loading access and the relationship between the beam and liquid level, even though the body can look similar to a larger-volume cuvette. Define the useful optical directions before deciding where the holder may contact the cell.

Keep the holder interface while reviewing the sample region
For an existing holder, mark the outside contacts that must remain. Supply the beam-centre height and beam width and height at the sample. We can then review a sample-region change against optical clearance and loading access together.
If sample availability is the reason for the change, state the amount available and the required optical path separately. The minimum working amount depends on the filled region covering the beam; it cannot be read directly from the nominal capacity.

Three checks for the proposed setup
- Beam footprint. Give beam width and height at the sample, plus its centre height.
- Loading access. Check that the chosen tip can enter without touching optical surfaces.
- Repeatable location. Identify the holder datums and the required cell orientation.
Separate filling from positioning
Plan one check for continuous filling and bubbles at the beam, and another for removing and replacing the cell in its holder. This helps distinguish a loading problem from a locating problem. Handle the outside edges and choose a cleaning method for the residue and construction.
What should I measure on the instrument before selecting this microcell?
Record the holder contacts, beam-centre height and beam dimensions at the sample. Compare those with the useful window and filled region of the selected cell. A matching outside footprint is not enough when the sample region is narrow.
Engineering dimension reference
The reference records known external dimensions and configuration notes. Internal geometry, tolerances and operating limits still require a project-specific specification.
