5 mm Screw-Top Quartz Cell: Choosing Path and Capped Height (MQQSC037)
Custom design guide · MQQSC037
A nominal 5 mm path and a screw-top opening offer a different combination from an open 10 mm cell. The narrow body needs support, while the 58 mm capped height needs overhead clearance.

Combine a 5 mm path with a workable screw-top arrangement
MQQSC037 is a configuration to compare when a method calls for a 5 mm sample path and loading through a screw opening. It has a listed 1.75 mL nominal capacity in a 12.5 × 7.5 × 35 mm optical body. The 7.5 mm outside depth is a mechanical dimension, not the optical path.
For absorbance under Beer–Lambert conditions, a change from a 10 mm to a 5 mm path halves calculated absorbance at fixed concentration and wavelength. That is a theoretical selection relationship, not a test result for this cell or a fluorescence prediction. The method must still operate in its useful measurement range.

How the structure differs from a conventional cell
Reducing one chamber direction creates the shorter sample path, while the larger neck supplies a different loading and closure arrangement. This also changes the holder support and upper envelope. The optical body is 35 mm high, but the uncapped and capped heights are 53 mm and 58 mm respectively.
Technical basis: IUPAC Gold Book: Beer–Lambert law. Basis of the theoretical path-length comparison; not a performance measurement of this SKU.

Identify which part of the compartment limits the fit
If the obstruction is the lid, show the complete capped outline and the movement needed to open or remove the cell. Keep the 5 mm path and optical body fixed if those already suit the method. A shorter body alone may not solve a closure-clearance problem.
If the issue is support or beam position, mark the holder datums, useful window and permitted contact faces. For another cap, also state its function and wetted-material needs. The M10 designation does not qualify every cap, liner or seal arrangement.

Three checks for the proposed setup
- Optical orientation. Mark the 5 mm path separately from the 7.5 mm outside depth.
- Holder support. Locate the narrow body without allowing it to lean or rotate.
- Cap access. Include the 58 mm capped envelope and opening/removal movement.
Check cap access before filling the cell
Walk through loading, cap handling and placement in the intended holder. Then evaluate the optical arrangement with the appropriate blank. Use an agreed residue-specific cleaning method. Closure performance needs its own conditions and acceptance check; it is not established by the screw-top form.
Which dimensions should I send for a compartment-fit review?
Send the support footprint, beam-centre height, useful beam size, available capped height and access for opening or removal. Include a section drawing if the lid is close to the neck. These describe the fit more clearly than body height alone.
Engineering dimension reference
The reference records known external dimensions and configuration notes. Internal geometry, tolerances and operating limits still require a project-specific specification.
