Demountable Quartz Cell: Loading Powders Through an Open Recess (MQQMC081)
Custom design guide · MQQMC081
MQQMC081 opens into a grooved main plate and a separate cover. Its 8 × 10 mm recess is 0.8 mm deep, giving direct access to the sample area before the cover is placed. For powders or small solid specimens, that access is the main reason to consider this layout.

Reach the sample area before closing the cell
Loading a powder through a narrow neck can make it awkward to reach or clear the measurement area. A removable plate lets you approach the recess directly. It also changes the task: the sample must stay where it is placed when the cover and holder are brought into position.
For a proposed loading trial, place a representative sample in the exposed recess, establish the intended sample surface, and bring the cover into position before locating the assembly in its holder. Observe whether that movement redistributes the material and whether the sample can be removed afterwards. The recess defines the space; sample form and operating orientation determine how it is occupied.

Make the cover position repeatable
The main plate is 12 × 2 × 45 mm; the separate cover is 12 × 1.25 × 45 mm. Show which edges the holder supports and how the cover is retained. Those two component dimensions do not establish the clearance of a finished mounted assembly.
For powder measurements, use the same loading and surface-preparation method when comparing specimens. The stated 64 µL describes nominal recess capacity, not a powder mass or a guaranteed working quantity. The holder must also leave the illuminated area clear while retaining the cover; cover placement and optical access are part of the same locating problem.

Move the recess while keeping its sample area
Suppose the 8 × 10 mm sample area suits the task, but it sits above the instrument beam. A useful enquiry would keep the target area and 0.8 mm path, then mark a proposed recess centre from a top or bottom datum.
Include the holder contact edges and the cover position on the same sketch. We can then assess edge margins, support and construction together. This describes a new design request, rather than machining an existing finished cell.

Checks to agree before ordering
- Loading: Try placing, covering and removing a representative sample in the intended orientation.
- Location: Define the recess datum, cover retention and holder contact edges.
- Inspection: Specify the critical recess dimensions, tolerances and any optical records needed in the quotation.
Sample and cleaning conditions
Check sample and cleaning liquids against the complete cell, including its bonded seams and any wetted cap or connection. Supply chemical identity, concentration, temperature and contact time. Avoid hydrofluoric acid; strong alkalis, heat and prolonged soaking need specific review. Adhesive-bonded quartz does not provide blanket approval or rejection of organic solvents.
