Using this cell

Fill the cell so the liquid fully covers the beam area used by your instrument, then fit the screw cap if your procedure calls for a covered sample. Hold the cuvette by the non-optical sides where possible, and keep droplets, fingerprints and bubbles away from the optical faces.

Use the same orientation for blank and sample runs when your method depends on consistent positioning. The stated 3.5 mL is the nominal cell capacity, not a minimum working volume.
