Funnel-End Micro Quartz Cell: Connecting an Expanded Opening to a Small Channel
Custom Design Guides · MQQFL078
MQQFL078 changes the access at the ends of a small quartz sample channel. The reference has funnel-shaped end openings, a nominal 1 mm optical path and a nominal 20 µL capacity.
The expanded entrance and narrow channel are different geometric regions. A useful enquiry describes how the sample reaches the opening and what must mate to it, instead of treating the funnel as a complete connection standard.

In this guide: Configuration · Design comparison · Keep the entrance and the small channel distinct · Show the approach to both ends · A micro chamber is not the entire sample requirement · Retain the measurement region, review the entrance · Enquiry
The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
An expanded opening leading to a small square channel separates loading access from the narrow sample region. The transition and the opposite-end access need review, rather than treating the whole opening as a constant-section cuvette.
Keep the entrance and the small channel distinct
The visible expanded end provides a different access shape from an equal-section open tube. Identify the actual opening, the transition and the channel in the drawing. Each can impose a different requirement on a filling tool or mating part.
The funnel shape does not establish an internal flow profile, automatic bubble removal or zero retained sample. If those behaviours matter, state the method and required observation rather than deriving them from the outline.
Show the approach to both ends
For example, an existing holder may locate the small body while leaving one end difficult to reach. Show the holder, the filling or connecting tool and the available approach direction at each end. The connection space can extend beyond the body envelope.
If fittings are required, identify whether they are part of the enquiry or already fixed in the apparatus. No supplied fitting set or pressure-qualified connection is assumed from the end-opening shape.
A micro chamber is not the entire sample requirement
The nominal 20 µL refers to the listed cell configuration. Sample used to reach, fill, flush or recover from the cell belongs to the actual procedure. Do not use the capacity label as a minimum amount for every circuit.
If sample availability is restrictive, provide the full loading and connection arrangement. This lets MQ discuss the geometry and the evidence needed for the method without inventing a recovery or dead-volume result.
Retain the measurement region, review the entrance
A possible custom request is to keep the small channel and optical requirement while changing an end approach to suit a tool or holder. Mark the region to retain and give the mating geometry and allowed external envelope.
The final design needs to address the end transition, support and optical access together. Proposed dimensional, filling or closure checks are agreed for the project rather than inferred from the small nominal capacity.

Do the funnel ends guarantee that no sample remains in the cell?
No retention or flushing result is established by the shape. Describe the sample, filling route and required recovery or cleaning criterion so the relevant geometry and verification can be reviewed.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Send a sketch that shows the small channel and both end approaches separately. MQ can then review a proposed interface change without losing the measurement-region requirement.
- Nominal path and sample-region requirement
- Filling or connecting method at each end
- Mating tool or fitting drawings
- Holder position and complete approach space
- Sample availability, conditions and requested checks
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Actual internal route, supplied connections, working sample requirement, retention and operating limits need confirmation.
