Long-Neck Quartz Cuvette: Allowing Room for the Ground-Joint Closure
Custom Design Guides · MQQST004
MQQST004 is a nominal 3 mm path quartz-cell reference with a long neck and ground-joint opening. The extended neck changes the assembly envelope above the measuring body.
A joint description, nominal path and total height answer different questions. They should be shown separately so the upper connection can be reviewed without losing the optical body's position in the holder.

In this guide: Configuration · Design comparison · Locate the measuring body first · Specify the complete ground-joint interface · Plan how the upper assembly is supported · Settle the sample space before specifying fill · Enquiry
The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
Extending a ground-joint neck above the measuring body separates upper connection access from optical seating. The benefit of that reach comes with a larger assembly and removal envelope.
Locate the measuring body first
Show the body seating and the optical direction relative to the instrument datum. The long neck should not become the only reference used to position the sample region.
If the cell replaces a shorter form, provide the holder section and the available space above it. A body that fits the holder may still leave the joint inaccessible under the apparatus cover.
Specify the complete ground-joint interface
Give the mating-part drawing or its exact standard, dimensions and engagement. The reference's 14# designation should not be expanded into a specific joint taper or length without confirmation.
Identify the parts to be supplied and any retention or closure requirement. A ground joint does not by itself establish a vacuum qualification, leakage result or universal accessory fit.
Plan how the upper assembly is supported
Include any mating component and line in the envelope drawing. The proposed setup needs a defined support arrangement rather than relying on the quartz neck to carry an unspecified external load.
For example, a longer neck may help reach a connection above an enclosure. Its position and access must still be reviewed with the measuring body held at the required optical location.
Settle the sample space before specifying fill
Give the amount to be used and the liquid level or region the method needs. The working fill should be specified from the selected chamber and preparation task, rather than inferred from the neck or the outside envelope.
MQ can review the neck, measuring section and mating joint on a dimensioned drawing. Agree any path, joint-fit, closure and inspection requirements for that configuration.

Does 14# identify an interchangeable standard joint?
It is the reference designation available here. Confirm the exact mating standard and dimensions before selecting another component or claiming interchangeability.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Send the optical-body section together with the upper joint assembly. MQ can review the long-neck design without treating the joint label as a complete interface specification.
- Optical-body seating and beam reference
- Exact mating joint or mating-part drawing
- Upper component and support envelope
- Working sample and filling requirement
- Path, joint-fit and closure acceptance
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Capacity, joint standard, containment performance and exact instrument compatibility require confirmation.
