Quartz Reflectance Sample Cup: Defining the Sample Surface and Base
Custom Design Guides · MQQIR003
MQQIR003 is the nominal 115 mL quartz reflectance-cup reference. Its cylindrical container form should be reviewed around the sample surface and the fixture in which that surface is presented.
This is different from specifying a transmission cuvette by a liquid path. Specify the required quartz grade and optical conditions for the method; no particular infrared range is established here.

In this guide: Configuration · Design comparison · Locate the sample surface from the fixture · Match the cup seating to the preparation method · Specify the optical requirement for the actual method · A custom cup starts with the sample plane · Enquiry
The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
A reflectance-cup request focuses on the prepared sample plane rather than a transmission path through liquid. The cup and its support need to present that plane at the required location.
Locate the sample surface from the fixture
Show the plane at which the sample should be presented and the datum used by the instrument or holder. The cup rim, bottom and prepared sample surface are different references.
Give the active area and any clearance needed above the sample. A capacity designation does not define a repeatable surface position in the measurement arrangement.
Match the cup seating to the preparation method
Identify how the cup rests or is retained and how it can be removed for loading. Include the container envelope and nearby components in the fixture section.
If the method involves levelling or a specific sample state, describe that preparation requirement. The reference does not establish packing, compaction or repeatability results.
Specify the optical requirement for the actual method
Give the wavelength range, observation arrangement and any relevant background or material criteria. The term quartz and the cup's clear appearance are not measurements of reflectance performance.
Do not assume a transparent bottom is the active optical interface. Mark the regions used by the method and the surfaces the fixture may contact.
A custom cup starts with the sample plane
For example, a revised cup depth could be considered to place a prepared sample at an existing fixture plane. The seating datum and working amount need to be specified alongside the new depth.
MQ can review the geometry after the grade requirement is settled. Agree dimensional and method-specific checks without turning a container designation into a qualified infrared accessory.

Does the reference establish a particular infrared operating range?
No. Material-grade descriptions require confirmation, and the method needs its own wavelength and optical acceptance requirements.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Send the sample plane and seating section with the optical conditions. MQ can then review the cup around the actual reflectance arrangement.
- Method, wavelength range and active sample area
- Sample-surface plane and fixture datum
- Cup seating and loading or removal space
- Working sample and preparation requirement
- Confirmed material grade and acceptance scope
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Material grade, spectral performance, fixture fit and preparation repeatability require confirmation.
