Quartz Screw-Top Sample Vials: Choosing the Bottle and Closure
Custom Design Guides · MQSV-20-QCV
A quartz sample vial is a bottle-and-closure assembly. Choosing the bottle material alone leaves the cap, neck and any liner unresolved. The 20 mL configuration shown here includes a flat-bottom quartz body and a separate quartz screw cap.
Its reference image marks a 28 mm body diameter and 58 mm body height. Those dimensions help describe the bottle on a bench or in a holder; they do not specify the complete height with the cap installed. Start with the space available, how you will withdraw the sample, and which surfaces may contact it.

The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
Compared with a simple open sample container, the screw-neck form adds a defined closure interface while retaining direct access through the mouth. The tradeoff is that bottle selection now includes the neck, cap contact and removal space as well as capacity.
What changes when the bottle becomes quartz?
The familiar arrangement remains: a cylindrical container, a threaded neck and a removable cap. The important design question is whether the same arrangement suits the new sample and process. A glass bottle that fits a rack does not establish that a quartz replacement has the same neck, wall thickness or closure contact.
Describe why you want quartz in the enquiry, including the exposure conditions or analytical method. A material name is not a temperature limit, transmission curve or blank result for the complete assembly. If the method depends on any of those properties, agree the evidence and acceptance conditions before ordering.
The neck controls more than the cap diameter
A cap that appears to screw on may still meet the bottle differently from the intended design. The thread, end face and any liner work together. Show where the closure should contact the vial and whether the sample can reach that contact during mixing or transport.
The mouth also needs room for the tool you actually use. State the pipette tip, sampling probe or other access requirement separately from the outside bottle diameter. A wider body does not necessarily provide a wider clear opening.
Use the body dimensions to plan the holder
For example, a rack may accept the body diameter while a low cover prevents the cap from being lifted off. A useful fit sketch therefore includes the support surface, cap removal space and the approach of the sampling tool. The 58 mm body mark should not be used as the installed assembly height.
Several capacities can share the same basic bottle-and-closure arrangement. Compare the actual diameter, body height and cap access for the chosen option. The short and slender 5 mL configurations illustrate why a shared volume does not mean a shared outside envelope.
If the body fits but the closure needs to change
A possible custom brief is to retain the body envelope and nominal capacity while asking MQ to review a different closure material or contact arrangement. Circle the neck in the sketch and identify what must stay unchanged. Include the mating cap or its drawing; do not specify only a new outside cap diameter.
The drawing and quotation should settle the supplied parts, contact materials, critical dimensions and any requested closure check. A proposed check for leakage or fit needs an agreed method and conditions; it is not a claim that this vial already carries that qualification.

Does a quartz cap make the complete vial suitable for any heating process?
No. The actual bottle, cap contact, any liner, contents and operating conditions must be considered together. Give MQ the planned conditions and required documentation rather than selecting the assembly from a generic quartz temperature claim.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Order the listed 20 mL configuration if its specified arrangement meets the task. For a change, send the bottle and closure requirements together so MQ can review one complete assembly.
- Required nominal capacity and actual working fill level
- Available body diameter, installed height and cap removal space
- Neck, cap and liner drawings or a mating sample
- Sample, contact conditions and the reason quartz is required
- Quantity, requested date and agreed dimensional or closure checks
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Neck bore, detailed thread dimensions, liner requirements, critical tolerances and allowable operating conditions remain items to agree for the order.
