Quartz Volumetric Flask: What to Specify for Solution Preparation
Custom Design Guides · MQQFS012
When the final solution volume matters, a nominal bottle capacity is not enough. MQQFS012 is the 50 mL quartz volumetric-flask option, with the narrow-neck vessel form used to locate a defined filling mark.
The useful question is what that mark is meant to represent and what evidence is required. A product title or a mark visible in a shared family photograph is not, on its own, a calibration certificate for the ordered flask.

The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
A volumetric-flask request adds a defined volume reference to the basic vessel shape. The important change is not just a mark on glass but the agreed volume definition, conditions and evidence that make the mark meaningful.
Specify the volume definition, not just 50 mL
Identify whether the procedure needs a vessel calibrated to contain or to deliver a volume and state the reference conditions. NIST's volumetric-calibration procedures treat the calibration method and temperature as part of the determination. They do not certify this particular flask.
Provide the tolerance or applicable method required by your laboratory. Do not infer an accuracy class from the shape, the word precision or another size shown in a group image.

The neck and mark belong to the reading task
A narrow neck places the filling mark in a region where the liquid level can be observed. If the flask must sit in a restricted enclosure or be filled with a particular tool, include the neck height and opening access in the request.
Keep the reading requirement separate from mixing and transfer. A flask can have the right nominal volume but be inconvenient to fill, stopper or invert within the available space. Give MQ the actual procedure rather than asking for a shape alone.
Changing the shape may change the calibration request
For example, you may need a different neck length while retaining a specified contained volume. Mark the desired volume definition, the fixed body envelope and the proposed neck change. The reference-mark location and any calibration record then need review for that design.
A custom vessel should not inherit a class or certificate from a standard-looking reference. State the required issuer, scope and record before quotation so the documentation request is explicit.
Keep the stopper with its mating neck
The current listing identifies the flask with a stopper. If interchangeability with an existing stopper is needed, provide the mating dimensions or part. A nominal flask volume does not define the joint size.
Agree the delivered set, critical dimensions and calibration documentation for the order. The general quartz material description does not qualify the vessel for an arbitrary heating or sterilisation process.

Does the 50 mL label mean this flask is supplied with a calibration certificate?
No certificate scope is established by the nominal capacity alone. Ask for the required calibration basis, tolerance, issuer and record before ordering, and confirm what can be supplied for the selected item.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Send the volume and documentation requirements with the flask enquiry. MQ can then discuss the selected configuration and any custom neck or body constraints on the same basis.
- Required volume and contain/deliver definition
- Reference conditions and laboratory method
- Tolerance or class requirement and documentation scope
- Neck, stopper and filling-tool access
- Quantity, requested date and any custom envelope
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Exact calibration status, tolerance, reference conditions, dimensions and available documents require confirmation for the ordered flask.
