Shallow-Groove Quartz Plate: Presenting a Powder Surface (MQQFL049)
Custom design guide · MQQFL049
An exposed 36 × 5 mm groove gives direct access to a powder or small solid preparation. Position the specimen surface first, then decide whether the recess or the stage support needs to change.

Put the specimen surface where the optics need it
A powder or thin solid specimen may be easier to present on an exposed plate than inside a liquid chamber. MQQFL049 provides a long, narrow sample groove: 36 × 5 mm in footprint and 0.5 mm deep, within a 61 × 7 × 2.5 mm quartz plate.
For reflectance or solid-sample fluorescence planning, describe the surface to be observed and how it will sit relative to the stage. The groove gives access for placement and removal. Its depth defines a physical recess, not an optical path or a specified powder mass.

How the structure differs from a conventional cell
The sample is placed onto an accessible surface instead of being introduced into a bulk liquid chamber. The solid margins around the groove can be considered for location and support. Surface preparation, specimen retention and removal therefore belong in the selection discussion alongside the plate dimensions.

Change the groove for the specimen, not just for capacity
For a longer specimen, send its footprint and the observed area, then identify the stage contacts to keep. We can review the groove length and width with the solid margins needed to handle and support the plate.
For loose powder, state the prepared surface height and how the material is retained. A deeper groove may lower that surface relative to the optics. For a small solid, explain whether it rests on the floor or is supported at its edges; those arrangements call for different recess details.

Three checks for the proposed setup
- Surface position. Locate the observed surface relative to the plate and stage datum.
- Stage clearance. Check the complete 61 mm plate and access to the 36 mm groove.
- Preparation method. Describe placement, levelling, retention and removal for the actual specimen.
Plan a repeatable surface preparation
Use representative material and the intended loading tool to check placement and movement during handling. Check whether the holder shadows the observed area. Keep preparation consistent when comparing specimens, and agree residue removal that will not scratch the groove or conflict with the construction.
Which dimensions matter for a powder or solid specimen?
Give the specimen footprint, prepared surface height, observed area and available holder contacts. Add a target mass if your method uses one, but specify its preparation separately. Groove depth alone cannot define the mass or optical geometry.
Engineering dimension reference
The reference records known external dimensions and configuration notes. Internal geometry, tolerances and operating limits still require a project-specific specification.
