Tall Quartz Sample Cell: Planning the Working Level and Support
Custom Design Guides · MQQHC005
MQQHC005 is the tall, five-clear-face quartz-cell reference with a nominal 50 mm path and 235 mL capacity. Its outside envelope is approximately 54 × 54 × 120 mm.
Here the design discussion starts with the size of the container and the working liquid level. The holder has to support a much taller sample body while leaving the required windows accessible.

In this guide: Configuration · Design comparison · Choose the working level from the optical task · Give the tall body a defined support · Make retrieval part of the layout · Specify the windows that the method uses · Enquiry
The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
A taller large-capacity body retains clear sample-facing surfaces but changes working-level, support and retrieval requirements. The useful design comparison is with the installed holder and the required liquid coverage, not capacity alone.
Choose the working level from the optical task
Mark the region that must be covered by the sample and give the intended liquid level. The 235 mL designation is not a requirement to fill to the top, nor a guarantee of a usable fill under every arrangement.
If a probe or transfer tool is present, include its displaced space and access needs in the proposed setup. Do not convert the outside box dimensions into a calibrated volume.
Give the tall body a defined support
Show the base support, lateral contacts and insertion direction. Identify the surfaces that must remain clear for the required observation directions, particularly if the bottom is part of the optical arrangement.
The reference does not establish an allowable clamping force or a loaded carrying method. Describe how the actual fixture will locate the cell so the support requirement can be reviewed.
Make retrieval part of the layout
A tall cell may clear the holder at rest but be difficult to remove beneath an enclosure. Include the complete lift-out route and the region available for handling the outside body.
For example, a customer may wish to preserve the sample-space class while changing the outside height or support arrangement. That proposal needs the working level, optical region and handling route on the same drawing.
Specify the windows that the method uses
Five clear faces describe the reference configuration; they do not report identical optical quality on every face. Name the active windows and any required flatness, surface or transmission criteria.
MQ can review those requirements with the outside dimensions and proposed support check. A large clear container should be specified as a part in a setup, rather than assumed to fit an existing 50 mm holder.

Is the whole 235 mL capacity required for a measurement?
The operating amount depends on the optical region, sample level and inserted components. Specify the working fill separately from the nominal container capacity.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Send the tall cell in its holder with the working level marked. MQ can review support and optical access before discussing a size change.
- Working liquid level and active optical regions
- Base and lateral support section
- Outside envelope and enclosure height
- Loading tools and full retrieval route
- Window criteria, dimensional checks and quantity
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Working volume, holder fit, handling loads and face-specific optical performance require agreement.
