Grooved Quartz Sample Plate: Positioning Powders and Solid Specimens (MQQCU011)
Custom design guide · MQQCU011
MQQCU011 is an elongated quartz plate with an open groove 3.5 mm wide, 40 mm long and 3 mm deep. It is a reference configuration for solid or powder reflectance and fluorescence arrangements, where access to the specimen and the position of its observed surface matter.
The situations and proposed changes below are planning examples, not completed customer projects.

Place the specimen directly in an accessible groove
A solid specimen or a powder preparation may need access from above rather than through a cuvette neck. MQQCU011 provides an open groove along a quartz plate: material can be placed in the groove while the surrounding plate provides surfaces for a proposed support. The loading access is the main reason to consider this form.
For a small solid specimen, describe where it rests and which surface faces the optics. For a powder, describe the loading and levelling procedure instead. Both enquiries need the observed surface located relative to the plate, but they need different support and removal arrangements.

Use the sample surface as an optical reference
The 3 mm dimension is the groove depth. In reflectance or fluorescence, the relevant illumination and collection paths depend on the actual sample arrangement. Do not enter the groove depth as a liquid absorption path without defining the method.
Similarly, the stated 420 µL is a nominal capacity, not a powder mass. Show the relationship between groove floor, plate top and intended sample surface, especially if different specimens are loaded to different levels.

Locate the plate without covering the sample
The source plate is 26 mm wide, 4 mm thick and 76 mm long. Mark the supported and clamped edges, then check that tools can still reach the groove and the holder leaves the optical directions clear. Sample retention depends on the specimen and operating orientation.
Keep the plate interface and ask for a wider groove
If the outer plate already suits a holder but a specimen needs more width, send its cross-section and proposed placement. Mark the target groove width and any depth or surface position that must stay fixed.
State whether the specimen should rest on the groove floor, be supported at its edges or present a surface level with the plate. We can then review the remaining quartz around a wider groove, its ends and the holder contacts. Include a way to remove the specimen and clean the exposed area.

Checks to agree before ordering
- Specimen: Try loading, retention and removal in the intended orientation.
- Surface: Define the observed surface relative to groove and plate datums.
- Holder: Check optical access, supported edges, location and critical groove dimensions.
Sample and cleaning conditions
Check sample and cleaning liquids against the complete cell, including its bonded seams and any wetted cap or connection. Supply chemical identity, concentration, temperature and contact time. Avoid hydrofluoric acid; strong alkalis, heat and prolonged soaking need specific review. Adhesive-bonded quartz does not provide blanket approval or rejection of organic solvents.
