Open Quartz Cell with a Tube: Keeping the Top Accessible
Custom Design Guides · MQQLW005
MQQLW005 is the nominal 10 mm path, 17.5 mL quartz-cell reference with an open top and a single projecting tube. It combines direct sample access with a separate connection feature.
The first useful drawing shows the cell as it will be installed. The tube should be located from that drawing's datums rather than called a bottom or side connection without an agreed orientation.

The configuration discussed here
What changes from the simpler form?
One projecting tube adds a connection task to an open loading cell. The mouth remains accessible, but the proposed line route and installed orientation must now be reviewed with the support.
Start with the open-mouth task
Identify what needs to enter through the mouth: a transfer tool, a probe or another specified item. Show its reach and the space it needs above the cell while the fixture and line are in place.
An open mouth is not automatically a sealed sample environment. State any exposure or containment requirement so the proposed arrangement can be assessed against the method.
Give the single tube a defined route
Show the intended line, connection method and the tube's position relative to the support datum. Its purpose may be discussed for the proposed circuit, but appearance alone does not establish filling, draining or a particular flow direction.
One projecting tube does not define a closed circulation loop with separate inlet and outlet. Supply the full route if circulation or repeated exchange is part of the request.
Check the line and holder together
The line may need space where a simple rectangular holder normally contacts the cell. Include the connection, its attachment space and the intended support faces in the same section.
For example, a revised tube position could help clear an existing fixture while retaining the nominal optical-path class. That change needs the actual installed orientation and the required open-mouth access.
Separate nominal capacity from the working level
Give the liquid level required to cover the optical region and accommodate the inserted tool. The nominal 17.5 mL designation is not a minimum operating volume or a reported usable fill under every orientation.
MQ can review the body, tube and support arrangement with any specified optical, dimensional or liquid-handling checks. The request should identify the result to verify rather than treating geometry as proof of drainage or flow.

Is the projecting tube definitely the drain?
Its role must be defined in the proposed circuit and installed orientation. The reference does not establish a drainage result or an assigned flow direction.
Send a drawing or the mating-part details
Send the cell in its installed position with the loading tool and line shown. MQ can then review the connection without relying on ambiguous side or bottom labels.
- Installed orientation with support datums
- Open-mouth tool and overhead clearance
- Required optical region and working level
- Tube location, dimensions and complete liquid route
- Sample conditions and acceptance checks
Modified designs are reviewed for the project. The drawing, supplied parts, quantity, inspection scope, price and preparation or production time are agreed in the quotation.
Details to settle for the ordered configuration
Tube orientation, fluid role, working fill, optical acceptance and circuit performance require confirmation.
