Round-Recess Quartz Cell: Loading a Small Solid Sample (MQQMC033)
Custom design guide · MQQMC033
An exposed circular recess makes a small solid or powder sample easier to place before the cover is fitted. The main design decision is how to hold that sample surface in the optical position.
The situations and proposed changes below are planning examples, not completed customer projects.

Place the specimen before fitting the cover
Trying to load a small solid specimen through a liquid cuvette opening can make positioning difficult. MQQMC033 separates the task into a recessed main plate and a plain cover. With the plates apart, the 8 mm-diameter sample area is accessible for placing material and removing it after the measurement.
This layout is worth considering for a powder or solid-sample fluorescence arrangement that needs direct access to the specimen. The holder matters as much as the recess: it must locate the plates and keep the observed surface where the optics expect it. A cover placed over loose powder does not, on its own, define how the powder will be retained.

How the structure differs from a conventional cell
The important change from a fixed liquid chamber is access. Loading takes place on an exposed surface instead of through a neck. A removable cover preserves that access, while making plate location and specimen retention separate parts of the design. For a pellet, the requirement may be a stable resting position; for loose powder, it may be a repeatable prepared surface.

Change the recess around the specimen and holder
If the existing plate outline fits your holder, keep those locating edges fixed and describe the specimen that must fit inside them. Give the recess diameter, depth and surface position you need. We can review the remaining quartz around the recess together with the cover support, rather than treating the pocket as an isolated dimension.
Consider what the change is meant to improve. A deeper recess can alter the observed surface height and make residue harder to remove. If easier loading is the goal, a different retaining fixture or preparation method may be more useful than extra depth.

Three checks for the proposed setup
- Observed surface. Mark the illuminated area and its height relative to the recess floor.
- Plate retention. Show how the cover and main plate are held without blocking that area.
- Specimen handling. Describe whether you will load loose powder, a pellet or another small solid.
Check placement and retention together
Use representative material and the intended holder to check whether the specimen moves as the cover is fitted and the assembly is positioned. Keep surface preparation consistent when comparing samples. Handle the plate edges and agree a residue-removal method suited to the construction; this is a suggested check to plan, not a reported test of this cell.
What should I specify for a powder-loading requirement?
Give the specimen type, required prepared area, surface height and retaining arrangement. Include a target mass if your method uses one. The listed 50 µL describes nominal recess capacity; it does not convert directly into a powder mass.
