10 µL Quartz Cell: Aligning the Sample with the Beam (C012CS5)
Custom design guide · C012CS5
C012CS5 holds the sample in a narrow region within a thin quartz body. Its nominal capacity is 10 µL and path is 1 mm, with the measurement centre 10 mm above the base. Selection depends on how the sample fills that region and how it meets the instrument beam.
The situations and proposed changes below are planning examples, not completed customer projects.

Bring a small sample to the beam
When only a small liquid sample is available, the problem is often getting it into the beam at all. A partly filled conventional cell may leave the liquid below the measurement position. C012CS5 concentrates the sample in a narrow lower region, so the holder and beam must meet that region rather than simply accept the outside shape.
Start with the available sample, wavelength and beam dimensions. The stated 10 µL is nominal capacity, rather than a universal minimum dose. The practical amount depends on filling, wetting, residue and bubbles in the actual procedure.

Match the path, narrow region and height separately
The source specifies a 1 mm optical path and a separate 1 mm slit. These equal values describe different features. It also locates the measurement centre 10 mm from the cell-base datum.
The external footprint is 12.5 × 3.5 mm, so the holder must support a thin shape while keeping that region in the beam. Draw the support surface and beam together; neither the 35 mm total height nor another cuvette's centre height can locate this sample region.

Check filling and location in one first-use trial
For an initial method trial, use a representative sample and observe the narrow region during loading. Note whether it fills continuously, whether a bubble interrupts the beam position and whether liquid remains after emptying. Then remove and replace the cell to assess location separately from filling. These observations help distinguish a loading problem from a holder problem.
Keep the short path and request another centre height
If a 1 mm target path is suitable but the beam is not at 10 mm, mark the required measurement centre from the actual support surface. Include the beam width and height, permitted body envelope and available sample.
State whether the existing thin body must fit a particular holder or whether a new holder is possible. That choice helps us review the narrow region and funnel-shaped loading area together. Moving the measurement centre can affect both loading access and the material available around the sample region.

Checks to agree before ordering
- Beam fit: Check the 10 mm centre position and the narrow region against the real beam and holder.
- Loading: Observe filling, bubbles, residue and practical sample demand.
- Location: Check support of the thin body and repositioning after cleaning.
Sample and cleaning conditions
Check sample and cleaning liquids against the complete cell, including its bonded seams and any wetted cap or connection. Supply chemical identity, concentration, temperature and contact time. Avoid hydrofluoric acid; strong alkalis, heat and prolonged soaking need specific review. Adhesive-bonded quartz does not provide blanket approval or rejection of organic solvents.
